Chinese AI lab Moonshot AI released Kimi K3, a 2.8 trillion parameter open-weight mixture-of-experts model with a 1M token context window that ranks #1 on the front-end code arena leaderboard at 1,679 ELO, surpassing Fable 5 and GPT 5.6 Soul. The model activates only 16 of 896 experts per token, making scaling 2.5x more efficient than its predecessor K2. Weights are expected to be released July 27th, making frontier-level performance freely available and intensifying the open vs. closed model debate.
