Commonwealth Bank of Australia's CommBank Companion is a conversational AI experience embedded in the CBA mobile app that lets retail and business customers build budgets, explore home-buying scenarios, and ask natural language questions about their finances — currently in phased testing. The session, presented at an AWS FSI event, covered the path from concept to production including technical guardrails, safety mechanisms, and governance. With two-thirds of customers reportedly never having made a budget, CBA is positioning AI-native banking as a financial literacy intervention at scale, making this one of the more concrete consumer-facing AI banking deployments from a major institution.
