How AI agents reproduced ICML 2026 papers

Hugging Face · Aug 08, 2026 · Research Findings

Hugging Face ran a hackathon using AI agents to reproduce all 6,000 ICML 2026 accepted papers.

“AI agents have made it much easier to conduct experiments, to write up results.”

Hugging Face organized an ICML 2026 reproduction hackathon with 1,200 participants and their AI agents attempting to reproduce every accepted paper from the conference. ICML 2026 saw a near-doubling of submissions (23,000+, up from 12,000 in 2025), which organizers partly attribute to AI agents lowering the barrier to conducting experiments and writing papers. This raises urgent reproducibility questions at a scale that manual review cannot address, and the hackathon represents a novel AI-powered approach to scientific verification.
