Beyond RAG: Task-aware knowledge compression for enterprise AI on AWS
Task-aware knowledge compression compresses entire knowledge bases 8x-64x, outperforming RAG for cross-document analysis.
“TAKC provides access to the entire knowledge base in compressed form, not just the top-k chunks that a similarity search returns.”
AWS introduces Task-aware Knowledge Compression (TAKC), a technique that pre-compresses document corpora into task-specific representations before query time, bypassing the lexical similarity limitations of RAG. By compressing the same source documents differently for financial vs. legal vs. compliance tasks, TAKC achieves 8x–64x token reduction while preserving cross-document reasoning chains that RAG's top-k retrieval misses. The open-source AWS implementation targets enterprise use cases like M&A due diligence and regulatory review where document interdependencies are critical.
